World Tobacco Day: Fight the Cigarette, Your Enemy!

The World Health Organization has done everything it can to get the message across that smoking is dangerous. Because of this, May 31st has been chosen as World Tobacco Day. On this day, campaigns are started to remind people why they shouldn't use tobacco. The theme for this year is "smoking and lung health."

Here Are Some Things That Can Go Wrong When You Smoke:

Risk Of Cancer

No matter if you smoke a cigarette, cigar, pipe, hookah, or chew tobacco, the most frightening thing about tobacco use is that it raises your risk of cancers like mouth, pharynx, larynx, kidney, cervix, esophagus, bladder, pancreas, stomach, and rectum cancers.

Damage To The Lungs:

Your lungs are made up of tiny air sacs that are very fragile and can't handle the stress of smoking all the time. Smoke also hurts the tubes that bring air into and out of the lungs. As soon as you start smoking often, you start to get sick. If you keep smoking, the infection will get worse and eventually lead to lung cancer. It also makes asthma and pneumonia worse.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD):

This syndrome includes both bronchitis and emphysema symptoms. This is a dangerous illness, and there is no way to treat it. COPD is more likely to happen if you smoke a lot and for a long time. Some of the signs of asthma are: shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing up phlegm, and very hard to breathe.

Heart Problems

When you smoke, your blood pressure goes up, which makes you more likely to get Peripheral Arterial Disease. Along your blood vessels, plaque starts to build up. This makes them thicker and less flexible, which makes it hard for blood to get to the heart. If this goes on for a long time, the heart's muscles will start to die. This makes a heart attack more likely.

It Makes You More Likely To Get Diabetes

People who smoke are much more likely to get Type 2 diabetes than people who don't smoke. It protects your body from diabetes. And if you were already sick with this debilitating disease before you started smoking, it will make your symptoms worse.
